The Project

Works completed between 2015 and 2017

The Ostojic Group has been awareded several contracts by the NT Government to upgrade the Plenty Highway to a sealed road standard over a 3 year period. These projects were part of a National Highway Strategy called the Overland Way, to build a tourist route from North Queensland to Southern Western Australia.

These projects were completed in a remote region requireing fully serviced construction camps to house the workforce. The works included the drilling and equipping of water bores, clearing & grubbing, earthworks to establish vertical & horizontal alignments, construction of cement stabilized floodways, installation of culvert crossings/ drainage, win & screen natural gravel for pavement materials, lime stabilize road pavement base course, upgrade intersections, spray seal wearing course and install road furniture.

Technical challenges revolved around remote area construction and lime stabilistation of natural gravels to provide a suitable base course for the road construction.

The road sections traversed some areas of cultural significance to the local indigenous land owners and extra care was required during the construction period to ensure no disturbance occured to these areas.
